The Schmidt family began August 4, 2012 when Joe and I had a wonderful, magical wedding in Philadephia. It was a very hectic summer, as immediately after our honeymoon we packed up and moved from Fresno to San Francisco, and just 9 days later, I began grad school for a teaching credential and Joe starting working full time.
Months passed and we really fell in love with our new home in the Bay Area. By about December, we had had decided that it would be a lovely time to begin trying to start a family. We weren't necessarily "trying," more, as they say, "not NOT trying" and seeing what may happen as a result. Well, on January 12, 2013, after buying a mammoth pack of ovulation predictor kits and pregnancy tests (that I figured I would have for quite a long time), I decided just "for fun" to take a test. Low and behold, a little pink line appeared. Today, nearly one month later, we finally had our ever-so-anticipated 8 week ultrasound. We were hoping for a strong, flickering little heartbeat. When the midwife began we were chatting a bit and very quickly her speech faded and jaw dropped. Feeling PETRIFIED I looked up at the screen and saw what I never expected... TWO little sacs with jellybeans inside. I immediately asked, "there are two, aren't there?" to which she opened her eyes very wide and nodded yes! Joe was still focusing on if there was a healthy baby in there and when I looked up at him and said, "babe, we're having twins" he grabbed his chest, smiled wide, and our eyes filled with tears of pure joy. We are so blessed to have one another, and not only one healthy little one on the way, but two. I am scared, excited, grateful, in disbelief... pretty much on a roller coaster ride of emotions (thanks partially to the hormones I'm sure). But, most of all I am feel so incredibly lucky and loved. Let the journey begin!
